How to Commission Artwork

HOW TO COMMISSION ARTWORK (Please see the Pet Portrait page for Pet Portrait Commissions)

Please use the Contact Me page and fill out the fields. In the How Can I Be Of Help box, please give me some details of what you have in mind (i.e. pet portrait, subject, medium, size, possible date needed, etc.) and I will contact you and we can discuss all the specifics and answer any questions you have. Below you will find a few answers to some basic questions, such as pricing or how long a commission might take.  Work will begin once we have both signed a contract with the agreed upon details.

I work on a first come first book basis and only have a certain number of bookings available each year.

SATISFACTION GUARANTEE

Your satisfaction is important to me. You will receive a scan of the final artwork before the final payment is required. I will make up to 2 adjustments within the original quoted price. (Additional adjustments can be made for most mediums at additional cost). If you are not completely satisfied with the final portrait, you will not be obligated to make the final payment. All reference material provided by you will be returned.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

There are several factors that determine how long a portrait might take me to complete. The size, complexity, and medium are the primary factors. Some mediums take longer than others as do larger pieces. Other factors that can effect how long it takes are how many other commissions I have ahead of you, my workshop schedule, and how efficient and timely our communications are. At the time of our consultation I will do my best to give you a fair estimate of how long it will take. As the process progresses I will give you updates on the timeline.

Please plan well in advance of when you will need your artwork completed. For most mediums I will need a minimum of 4 weeks. Because of this I only accept a certain number of commissions a year. Definitely order a few months prior to December for any holiday gifts.

I determine my base rates for non-illustration artwork by linear inch.

ORIGINALS

Sizes 4x4, 5x5, 6x6 - 10$ per linear inch for all mediums and supports, single animal (this size will typically be head and shoulders only, unless it is a small animal) with a simple background on a standard support. Two adjustments are included.

Sizes 8x8 - 12 x 18 - $20.00 per linear inch for all mediums and supports, single animal with a simple background on a standard support. Two adjustments are included.

Sizes 16 x 16 and up - $25.00 per linear inch for all mediums and supports, single animal with simple background on a standard support. Two adjustments are included.

Additional costs: Add $5.00 per linear inch for the following:

       Specialty Support

Per additional animal (sizes 10 x 10 and up)

       Complex background

       Additional adjustments (for most mediums)

        Odd sizes*

Please ask me about pricing on specialty supports and odd sizes. These may require extra preparation and/or sealants in addition to the cost of the material itself and shipping.

*Standard sizes are typically the same as “ready made” frame sizes; i.e. 8x10, 9x12, 16x20 etc. Odd sizes may be a panoramic size (4x12 or 12 x 24) or round. Most square sizes are more available now and would be considered standard sizes.
