Artist's Statement

What do I mean when I say I am a conservation artist?

I have been creating animal art since I was a child. (My parents have told me I was drawing before I was walking). As soon as I was introduced to an animal or habitat (in books, movies or tv, zoos, etc.) I had to learn how to draw it! And I would draw it, and draw it, and draw it some more. I also wanted to know everything there was to know about that animal or habitat.

Not much has changed as far as my passion for wildlife and nature is concerned. Now I strive to promote conservation awareness with my art and hopefully inspire others to look of the connection between all species and the awareness that we don’t just live on our planet, we live with our planet. With each work of art, I provide information about the subject and conservation concerns and small ways that each of us can affect change. (I try not to lecture). I also use a portion of the proceeds from the sale of my art to support several conservation projects and organizations, both local and abroad.
